The Story of Our Child Development Centre

website.jpg

The Mind Project Child Development Centre has been established for 10 years, since 2016. The foundation and growth of our early education centre in HK were driven by several important factors. At that time, a limited amount of support was offered by private child development centres in Hong Kong. Moreover, children with special education needs faced lengthy waiting periods of up to a year to access necessary government consultations and services. As a result, many children with special education needs did not receive timely treatment, which creates a possibility to significantly impact children’s development during what is referred to as the "Golden Period".

The "Golden Period" represents a vital phase for learning and growth, offering the chance for optimal care in child development. This stage, which spans from infancy to the age of six, is characterised by significant neuroactivity and the formation of neurons in the brain, enabling children to develop rapidly and effectively. Suppose there are indications that a child has been observed to experience delays in cognitive development, language, or motor skills. In that case, it is essential to provide them with the most appropriate and compatible treatments during the critical “Golden Period” within an early education centre. This approach will help establish a solid foundation for their future growth and enable them to meet developmental milestones.

In today's world, although there are more services available at child development centres in Hong Kong, it is important to note that many early education centres often concentrate their efforts on a single type of treatment, such as behavioural therapy. This narrow focus can limit the effectiveness of interventions, as children with ASD often require a more comprehensive approach that addresses a variety of needs. Children may also require support from early education centres in HK for developmental domains, including cognitive skills, language development, emotional regulation, and social interactions, which are equally vital for their overall growth and progress.

Due to a gap being seen in the services being provided by early education centres in HK, The Mind Project has taken the initiative to form a multidisciplinary team. This child development centre Hong Kong team consists of specialists in various fields such as Clinical Psychology, Speech Therapy, Applied Behavioural Analysis, and Special Child Care Work. Through collaboration between each therapist on the team, we aim to create quality personalised treatment plans with the objectives of being able to provide the correct resources and support that children require to thrive and achieve their full potential across every aspect that is vital for their development.

At The Mind Project Child Development Centre, we believe that every child, regardless of their unique needs, deserves equal access to essential treatment and support for their growth. We notice that children develop at different paces, facing challenges in different areas of developmental domains. The goal of our early education centre is to provide a variety of tailored services designed to nurture each child's strengths and address their specific needs. By collaborating closely with families, we empower them with resources and information, fostering a supportive environment that enhances the effectiveness of our interventions. Ultimately, we are committed to unlocking each child's full potential and ensuring their future success.

Early Education Centre HK Parents’ Reviews

Tracy’s mother: Before attending any training classes in an early education centre in HK, my daughter struggled with maintaining attention during daily activities. Whether it was eating, reading, or participating in classroom activities, she often found it difficult to remain seated and focused.

Since attending the Attention Training Social Club, my daughter has significantly improved her ability to express herself, maintain her attention span, and follow detailed instructions. I have observed positive changes in her behaviour that greatly help her daily life. Recently, I have noticed that she is showing better focus during class and has developed more friendships, showing an increase in confidence during social interactions.

Angus’s father: Following each Executive Functioning group session, their child development centre’s Hong Kong therapist consistently provides a detailed review of my son's performance. They outline the lesson plans and their objectives in terms of what the children are expected to achieve and learn. Additionally, the therapist highlights areas where my son performed well, as well as aspects that require further improvement.

Previously, my son displayed impulsive behaviours, but through group training on emotional management and expression, he has learned to interact more effectively with others. This experience has helped him develop skills in sharing and taking turns during various activities, resulting in making new friends.

Principal Lam: I would like to express my gratitude to the therapists at this very good early education centre in HK for their dedicated school-based training, which has been crucial in helping our students transition smoothly into primary school. The child development centre’s therapists demonstrate passion and creativity in their teaching methods, employing engaging activities such as role-playing to demonstrate the proper use of bathroom facilities. Additionally, they utilise video anecdotes to illustrate appropriate behaviours effectively.
Through these interactive approaches, students show increased engagement in their learning, while also acquiring essential life skills to better adapt to primary school life.

Special Educational Needs Coordinator: We would like to express our gratitude for the ongoing school-based psychological counselling and behavioural therapy services that The Mind Project Child Development Centre has provided to our school over the past two years.
The team at your early education centre not only possesses passion and expertise but also excels in providing tailored treatments for each student, addressing their specific needs. About Our HK Early Education & Child Development Centre - FAQs:

1. I am not sure which child development service or programs are best suited for my child. What steps should I take?

If your child has previously completed assessments, our therapist can provide professional advice based on the evaluation report, helping to identify the most fitting programs offered at our early education centre. Additionally, The Mind Project Child Development Centre values communication with parents in order to gain insights into their expectations, which enables us to recommend course options that align with the child’s learning goals and preferences. For further assistance, parents are welcome to consult with a clinical psychologist at our child development centre in Hong Kong to explore the optimal program for their child.

2. My child struggles to maintain focus and has a short attention span during lessons. What strategies and support can your child development centre provide to help him improve?

There are many reasons why children have a lack of attention span, such as poor working memory and difficulty in inhibitory control. Our early education centre has introduced “Attention Social Groups” and “Executive Functioning Groups”, which are designed to enhance children’s memory, attention, impulse control, and emotional management skills through games and different activities.

3. At what age should my child start evaluations and treatments at an early education centre?

Every child’s developmental journey is distinct. If parents are concerned about their child’s delayed development, it is advised to seek help from a child development centre during the golden period (from infancy to the age of 6).

4. What languages does your child development centre use for teaching?

The Mind Project Child Development Centre tailors the language of teaching to suit the children’s needs and abilities. All of our therapists can provide instruction in Cantonese, Mandarin, and English.

5. Are parents allowed to attend class alongside the child at The Mind Project Child Development Centre?

In order to help children integrate into the classroom environment smoothly, our early education centre usually does not recommend that parents observe or accompany their child during class. After class, our early education centre HK therapists will share and discuss the children’s performance and progress with the parents. Additionally, our child development centre also provides homework for parents to complete with their child, fostering parents' engagement in their child’s development, and reinforcing the skills that were learned in class.

6. What are the arrangements and students' allocation for both personalised and group training classes at your child development centre in Hong Kong?

●    Personalised lessons: Each session spans from 45 minutes to 2 hours, with the duration varying according to the specific training program each child is enrolled in and the individual needs of the child.

●    Group lessons: Each group class has a maximum of six children, with the majority of classes lasting approximately one hour.

7. What qualifications do therapists at your early education centre possess?

All therapists at our early education centre hold relevant degrees, qualifications, and expertise in their field, and each has rich experience working with children. They all have the expertise to enhance children's engagement and enrich their knowledge by considering developmental milestones, individual needs, and learning styles for each child. This tailored approach allows them to deliver the most effective treatments and services aligned with classroom content.

8. What if my child is sensitive to the classroom environment or content and is struggling to adapt?

Through cultivating a strong rapport with each child and customising the difficulty levels of various activities, our child development centre’s therapists employ a range of reinforcement strategies to support children's coping abilities. We will maintain regular communication with parents to address any ongoing challenges or improvements that can be observed. This collaboration between parents and our early education centre aims to identify the underlying reasons for these struggles and explore potential solutions and adjustments in teaching methods to reduce anxiety related to new environments.

9. What measures does your child development centre implement to ensure the safety and privacy of each student?

Each classroom within our child development centre in Hong Kong is equipped with 24-hour security cameras to ensure constant surveillance. Additionally, our early education centre has selected child-friendly tables with rounded edges, provided soft mats, and installed power socket covers to guarantee the safety of all children in our care. Furthermore, every therapist on our early education centre HK team has completed a Sexual Conviction Record Check (SCRC).
